Before landing on this page, you and I were only separated by a mere three degrees. Now we can be one on the web. That's not the definition of technological singularity but it should be.
With this tumblog, I promise kittens and balls of yarn for the kittens to play with. There will be some making out and a lot of hand-holding. I hope that when you are lonely and lost on the outmost corners of the interweb, you can come here and find yrself and feel the good vibrations. You are special and no one can touch that!
Your Pal Mal

Today I got my hair cut at my all-time favorite New York spot, Kiwa Salon, whose stylists and owners are pictured in true form above. While getting shampooed I started making a list of reasons why I can’t stop telling people to come here:
1. No one here speaks English. This means there is no forced awkward discussion during the entire hour long period you spend with your stylist.
2. When they do speak, it is in Japanese. How cute is that?
3. You’re probably wondering, ‘If no one speaks English how do they know how you want your hair cut?’ They do have a translator but I often bring in photos, which they keep indefinitely on file. This makes me feel super special because they bust out my personal file and refer to my hair history every time I come in. This makes the entire process seem very important and gives me a sense of determination when picking which hair should be cut first.
3. They give you a three-minute complimentary massage (but only if you say yes when they ask because they are totally polite! Again, how cute!)
4. They offer magazines in a variety of languages and special interests; For example, American magazines written on Japanese culture and Japanese magazines written on American culture etcetera. They also give out free issues of Chopsticks NY. Plus five points for that.
5. They make girls like me feel like I belong because they are all around my height and also wearing hello kitty bracelets.
6. They have a (really golden) blog. (More on that later.)
7. Everyone who works there manages to be better coordinated than I am. If you know me, this is saying a lot considering I make sure even my underwear and socks compliment my headband.
8. They cut hair well and I am always pleased when I leave.
9. Often two people will blow-dry your hair at once, each concentrating on one side of your head. This is great because it means you’re out of there in half the time.
10. You get 20% off coupons to give to all of your friends and you never pay full price if you’re a returning customer.
